University of Wisconsin-Madison Encampment and Protest

The University of Wisconsin-Madison encampment remains peaceful despite the abrupt attack at 0730 in which the Madison Police Department, Wisconsin State Troopers, Campus Police, etc… descended upon the encampment as protestors slept. The police had used excessive force against multiple individuals, including both students and professors, fitting the trend widely witnessed currently around the United States, which ended in multiple arrests.

Palestinian solidarity

Less than two hours later, the encampment was re-established, and peaceful protestors had once again occupied the Library Mall. Students are demanding an immediate ceasefire to Israel’s atrocities and divestment from the Israeli regime.

The Madison encampment embodies all aspects of community care and peaceful protest. It offers daily teach-ins, tatreez (Palestinian embroidery), music and film, and, most importantly, Palestinian solidarity. It extends a warm welcome to all who are present and to any allies in the community. Food and supplies are donated daily by both businesses and community members.

“never again means never again to anyone,”

Mainstream media is spinning the protests as some terrorist gathering, which Tom Cotton has referred to as “Little Gaza” and “Little Hamas” encampments that call for the death of Jews. This couldn’t be further from the truth, as anyone who sees the encampments personally shall see. Countless Jews are protesting as allies to the Palestinian cause, protesting “not in my name” and “never again means never again to anyone,” a reference to the Holocaust.

Students are calling for an end to the Genocide taking place in Gaza and to the violence that Palestinians and Arabs as a whole have experienced daily for over 100 years. Students, who spend countless hours every day all year studying vast amounts of primary sources and information artifacts, have grown sick and tired of seeing the same cycle repeat itself over and over and over again.

The encampments, while their primary purpose is human rights for the victims in Gaza and the divestment in criminal activities, have also exposed the moral compass and fascist points of view our government political body maintains, all to keep their power and control over us while appeasing their campaign donors.

Samer Alatout (@sameralatout) gave a speech at the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus early in the evening, after he had been attacked and arrested by officers.

Lastly, the students and Americans alike want America back. Currently, policy is being manipulated by AIPAC, and they carry a unique legal status that allows them to invest in American Policy and lobbyists without limit. This type of foreign intervention needs to be dealt with and removed.

misinformation

Overall, the encampments are peaceful and do not wish death on anyone but only an end to the active genocide. The participants range from all ages and demographics and exclude no one so long as they seek peace and an end to the atrocities in Palestine. The media and America’s leadership, in collaboration with Israeli leadership, are running a smear campaign against the call for an end to the genocide
